About Us

The Brickyard Office Park is the recent renovation of a Brick and Timber Building that was originally one of the brick making buildings in this area of Cambridge at the turn of the century. The renovation retains the original heavy timber beams and ceilings, the steel structure and high ceilings. Skylights and interior multi level spaces were added.

It is located in West Cambridge close to Radcliffe and Harvard Universities between the Fresh Pond/Alewife area, Porter Square, and Harvard Square. The building presently is occupied by various computer related companies plus Comcast Cable Television, architecture and other firms. The building has fiber optic cable and an interior T-1 direct internet hook up.

The Brickyard building was originally constructed in 1930 as a part of the Cambridge brick manufacturing industry. The factory portion of 45,000 square featured a "tunnel kiln" which ran the length of the building. In 1985, John Kernochan and his company, Shelter Innovation, renovated this mill type building into office space. The renovation resulted in a mixture of exposed brick, heavy timber, glass, and skylights. The conversion was done in phases beginning in 1986 with the last phase being completed in 1990.
